When you go into premium skincare stores, you are met with hundreds of different products and brands. Variety and choice is often a lovely thing, but when it comes to choosing the right skincare it just becomes overwhelming and confusing as to where to start.
You often don’t get enough guidance when it comes to choosing the right products for your skin concerns, leading to a long list of options in front of you. I used to blindly select based on the brand names I was familiar with.
The ingredient list in products from leading skincare brands often extend beyond 40 different ingredients, of which most are unrecognisable to any non-scientist! Big brands sometimes add “bulking agents” to their products as well, to increase the volume of product so they last longer and appear “better value” to consumers.
Different skincare products can negatively interact with one another when used in the same routine. Therefore, while a product may relieve one symptom, it can worsen another. A common example are blemish treatments which often work by restricting natural oil production, which can lead to severe dryness.
We all know that you need to use a new product for a few days (at least) to see any benefits. By this point you have used up a fair amount of the product and the shop denies you a refund. Sound familiar?
